Our freakin tax dollars at work
Sonia Pitt. Anyone remember her? If you are from outside MN, likely you've never heard of her. So let me refresh memories.
Tomorrow is Aug 1, the one year anniversary of the 35W bridge collapse up here. Sonia Pitt was the MN Dept of Transportation Emergency Response Executive. When the bridge collapsed, she was in Washington (she was supposed to be in Cambridge MA at a conference) on an unauthorized visit to schmooze and to continue an affair... on state funds. When the bridge collapsed, she obviously rushed right back right? Nope. She STAYED in Washington for over 2 weeks...on state funds. Yep she stayed even though emergency officials here were trying to get a handle on things and recover bodies from the wreckage.
An investigation that found she was a "belligerent, aggressive" employee who abused her position and billed the state for thousands of dollars in excessive compensation for airfare, hotels, mileage and personal cell phone calls. Her letter of discharge states she engaged in activities that violated MnDOT's ethics code and was involved in "activities that cannot withstand public scrutiny without embarrassment. ... do not safeguard the public trust in the integrity of MnDOT, and undermine public trust in the Department."
Surely with a record like that, she's flipping burgers right? Nope. All that schmoozing in Washington during those 14 days must have done her a world of good, because she is now working for Homeland Security as a "Transportation Security Specialist". Why does this not fill me with confidence? In fact, neither Pitt nor TSA will elaborate what Pitt does, or how much she is being paid.
Crap, crap, crap. Where the hell are we going and why are we in this hand basket?
Edit: Apparently, Pitt had been the Cambridge conference when the bridge collapsed, didn't return to MN, but instead stayed for 2 more days THEN went to Washington for another 10 days. Ah, that's so much better.
